Presented by Australian Dance Party, Autonomous reflects on our relationships with technological invention, the urban landscape and connection, as we move, transition, turn and weave through our days in motorised car choreographies. With an interest in re-framing who and what can perform, Autonomous positions the car as the dancer.
Set in a CBD carpark – spaces which invade the lives of Canberrans – Autonomous will challenge the valued freedom of the car versus its impact. Issues of social disconnect, laziness, disposability and carbonisation of our environment fog up the windows.
Expect an immersive, revved up dance weaving in and around the anatomy of the car.
Dance Artists: Olivia Fyfe, Alana Stenning, Jack Riley and Alison Plevey.
Australian Dance Party is Canberra’s emergent, not for profit dance company. Lead by Artistic Director, Alison Plevey, Australian Dance Party’s project based creative practice, initiates multi-dimensional performance work which prioritise the engagement of local artists, to establish sustainable careers for dance professionals in Canberra. Unafraid to provoke, exhilarate, entertain and celebrate, The Party contemplates bold ideas and contemporary issues with the power, vulnerability and playfulness of the human body. In 2016 The Party presented debut sold out seasons of new works ‘Strings Attached’ in collaboration with the CSO and ‘Nervous’ at Mt. Stromlo Observatory.
