Contested Land is the latest creation from Second Echo Ensemble. We are working with ideas that are both quietly political and socially evocative investigating the history of nations, conflicts both embodied and landscaped, and lines drawn in the sand.
Early inspirations and creative points of conversation and departure include Woody Guthrie, the current Australian Government policies on asylum seekers, Aboriginal land rights and climate change- a stream of diverse ideas with a physically palpable connection to our relationship to land, sustainability and planet politics.
Contested Land explores our sense of connection and what it means to us to take, give, share and fight over our contested lands.
This is a free event, but bookings are required, book online here.
The Second Echo Ensemble (SEE) is an independent, integrated performance group, which has been producing dynamic collaborative physical theatre works since 2005. It is a curiosity-driven ensemble that values and grows creative relationships, unique perspectives, and group devised physical theatre practice. At the core of SEE is the ensemble of deviser/performers. The majority of whom live with intellectual disabilities and have been members of the group since its inception. Integration and diversity are at the heart of the ensemble’s goals. Our work is not simply about access or equality. We are about new ways of thinking and new opportunities for engagement with a diverse pool of creative talent, serving both to widen and deepen the possibilities for the creative practices and conversations of the future.
