Real Life Residency: The Office
- LOCATION: The Festival Hub, 46 Northbourne Ave : Civic
- COST: FREE
- ARTIST/S: Marcia S
- WHEN: 5 April 2017 - 9 April 2017
In this DIY residency, Marcia provided herself with an un-unique opportunity to engage creatively with her work environment for 90 days. No other artists. No breathtaking views.
The opposite of inspirational stimuli. Located deep in Humdrum Public Service Life, Canberra, the reality of this “residency” was more along the lines of a rancid shared fridge and a terrible electronic filing system. Can even the dreariest of the everyday be fertile ground for making art? Or should office workers give up and accept oblivion as paper-pushing automatons?
Marcia S moved up to Canberra from Melbourne four years ago to start working in the public service. She has a diploma in cutting and pasting that has been surprisingly useful in her office job. While she wouldn’t exactly call herself an artist, Marcia is interested in trying to examine and confront the mundane, taken-for-granted and gross aspects of everyday reality through creative practices.
