A note from the artist:
“I am a Visual artist who has lived and worked in the ACT for over 45 years. My artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally. I’ve established many public places in the ACT for other artists to make work and have their work seen. I have won national and international awards and received 2 grants over those 45 years. Outside of that financial assistance my career was made on my own terms, talent and determination. Not a unique story but those awards and financial support gave me courage, peer support and opportunities at pivotal times in my career.
Henri Matisse said “Creativity takes Courage”, he was right and so was Marcel Duchamp when he said “The artist performs only one part of the creative process. The onlooker completes it, and it is the onlooker who has the last word.”
Private patronage is the glue in the matrix that can make things happen. Government sponsorship usually comes with an agenda where as independent patronage shows support and understanding that all creative arts in all forms need to exist.” – Dianne Fogwell
